fireworks petitions

There are a few anti-firework petitions that, as a dog owner, are worth signing. My Cleo is terrified of them and I fully support a ban. Worth thinking about, link below.

When yoghurt pots attack

Don't just love their funny habits! This is my Cleo enjoying herself with a finished yoghurt pot. She has a very pleased look on her face at the bottom.

Well The new rescue blog is now up and running and has some wonderful dogs on there, including our own! I am sorely tempted but my OH has three tops. A small oldie wouldn't be much trouble though :)

Dogs good for your health!

Tell us something we don't already know. There is a news report out today from the BBC saying that sharing you life with a dog makes you healthier. So go out and adopt one, particularly a greyhound, so many need homes and they keep you fit. If you can get them off the sofa that is!

Is anyone out there?

I have just discovered that the settings on this page were preventing anyone, except members, from commenting on posts. This is frustrating as I was hoping to have some discussion about the website etc on here. I though at first that people had not read the posts, hopefully someone is and will now comment. So if you have tried to leave a comment to my first post about suggestions, please now leave your thoughts and ideas. It should be possible now :)

Talking dogs

Something to make you smile on a Monday morning.! This is is a video of dogs who talk, very strange. Unfortunatley none of them are greyhounds.

Yola's racing video

One of our dogs that was found dumped, Yola, is on video. You can see her winning at Brough Park in October 2005. She won quite a few races and raced right up until she was dumed late 2006. This is how a winning greyhound is usually repayed by the greyhound industry.
Here is the link to her video. Just follow the instructions to see her race. She is on adoption page for rehoming.

Yola wins!

This little man is Stevie. He was rescued a couple of weeks ago in Ireland, This photo is fairly recent but he is on the mend now. He is being cared for now and I will post updates on how he is doing as they are added to the forum.

It does illustrate how badly these dogs are treated and how important fundraising and small charities are to the survival of these dogs. The situtation is particularly bad in Ireland. So while the photo is shocking, I think it is a good reminder of why we do what we do!

Durham greyhound killer at court Friday 19th January

Here is a link to the news story. Many of you may remember last year it was discovered that a Durham man, for many years, had been disposing of greyhounds for people in the racing industry. He would charge £10 and then burrying them in his field. He is being prosecuted this week.

Two legged Greyhound

A few years ago on Animal Planet I remembered this video and now thanks to You Tube and the like, you can see it online.

It really does have to be seen to be believed!

Two legged greyhound pup

Welcome to my blog!

Hi
I have decided to set up a blog so that I can share many of the great greyhound, welfare stories, videos etc that are on the web. There is a whole world out there that is just as crazy about greyhounds and lurchers as we are :)

The other purpose is to allow people who support our charity to leave comments on here and for us to let you know (if you are interested) about the things we get up to. I know some of you, like myself before I took over running the website, check regularly to see if there are any new dogs or events coming up. Well to be fair I checked every day, can you say dog obsessed.

So for my first question. Is there anything you would like to see on the website that isn't there? We plan to have a rememberance page soon and obviously we have my blog. So any ideas would be greatly received.

Also it would be great to have photos of your dogs on here grey or otherwise. So you can send them directly to me at the email at the top or you can send them to Val to forward to me. Just state if you want them on the website gallery or blog.

That's it for now.
